How to number the pages of a PDF
- Drop your PDF.
- Choose the position and format. “1 of 10” shows the total as well.
- Want to skip a cover page? Set First page to number to 2, and Start at to 1 so the second page shows “1”.
- Click Add page numbers and download.
The numbers are added on top of your pages; the rest of the document stays unchanged. Your original file is never modified.

Questions, answered
Can I skip the cover page?
Yes. Set “First page to number” to 2. Earlier pages are left without a number.
Can I start from a number other than 1?
Yes. Change “Start at”, for example to 5 if this PDF continues from another document.
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is opened and edited by your own browser. That makes it safe for contracts, IDs and anything private — and it works even on a slow connection once the page has loaded.
Is there a file size or page limit?
We don’t set one. The practical limit is your device’s memory — a few hundred pages is usually fine on a laptop, and large scans may be slow on older phones.
Why can’t it open my PDF?
Password-protected PDFs can’t be read until the password is removed (open it, then Print → Save as PDF). Very unusual or damaged files can fail too.
